WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Here's evidence of the tough economic times: About 500 people have applied for jobs at a new restaurant/brewery in Wausau.

A spokesman for the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. says the business needs 120 workers, with only 80 of those being full-time.

Ted Peterson says the applicants are very eager to talk. Marathon County's unemployment is 9.4 percent, the highest since 1986.

Twenty-three-year-old Carly Potter says she hasn't been able to find work since being laid off at Quizno's Subs in Wausau. Fifty-one-year-old Steve Garske says he hopes he can get a job in the new restaurant's brewery after being laid off from his factory job.

The restaurant set to open May 22 will be Great Dane's first venture outside Madison.
