MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Jim Doyle is recommending $34.5 million in transit projects to be funded with the state's share of economic stimulus spending.

Doyle's office says the projects he's recommending are in 14 smaller urban areas and 32 rural areas. They would include spending for buses, plows, radio equipment and more.

The spending would come from a pot of money set aside for transit projects such as improving buses and bus facilities.

For cities, the next step is submitting an application to the federal government and having the project certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Rural projects will need approval from the Legislature's budget committee and the state DOT.
