(WFRV) - A branch of the federal government has reported that funds for Digital Television converter box assistance are running low.

The Dept. of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is reporting that those who register for coupons will now be placed on a waiting list.  New coupons will be released as previously unused coupon cards expire.

The government allocated a $1.34 billion funding limit, and the NTIA has now reached that figure. Coupons are good for $40 toward the purchase of a DTV converter box, and coupons expire approximately 3 months from the date they are issued.

February 17 is the last date that television stations will be broadcasting their analog signals.  Those who receive television via a local antenna will need to either purchase a converter box, or purchase a television with a DTV tuner, in order to watch over-the-air television after February 17.

The NTIA believes that current funding will mean that those applying for coupons now will not likely receive them by February 17.
