It takes the benefit of age to understand why the 20's and 30's can be the easiest health-wise. But that doesn't mean the 40's and beyond have to be difficult. Here are some steps you can take to "makeover" your life for better years to come..

A couple of years ago, Bob and Bev Kistler were experiencing a serious energy shortage. "It wasn't to the point where at the end of the day I was exhausted, I was just non-stop exhausted," says Bob. "I was tired, very tired, I mean working and running the children around. You know, it, it just seemed like there was no time left for us," says Bev.

Their lives left them running on empty. But guidance from integrative medicine doctors helped them get to a better place. "These are great years, and they have the potential to be the best years of our lives, but there, there are challenges that manifest themselves," says Dr. Daniel Monti.

Challenges like weight, mood, and sexual function. "These three issues are very inter-related. They share the same biology, the same psychology, and one always affects the other," according to Dr. Monti.

He says, to improve all three areas, the transformation starts with a physical and blood work, "We look at their biological functioning, hormonal levels, but also look at many other biological variables to have a sense of biochemically, physiologically, anatomically, what's going on with each of them."

Food choices will 'make' or 'break' these years, so try more 'living' foods and fewer processed ones. "The right food will turn out a good version of you. The bad food will turn out a non-happy version of you," says Dr. Anthony Bazzan.

He says hormonal imbalances also upset the applecart, and can leave people tired, anxious and heavier, "when a person starts to lack hormonal function, for sure their life will change and not for the better."

Bob and Bev used these tips to revive their lives and energize themselves for years ahead.
