Even if its ever so slightly, milk production still going up

Milk production was back up in May. the increase was just one tenth of one percent, and year to date milk production is running four tenths of one percent
above 2008 levels. Even though this increase is slight it still leaves us with too much milk for current market demand. Most buyers say they have no concerns over supplies tightening and that they have no reason to increase purchases which continues to pressure cheese and class three prices.
Culling rates in part due to the CWT herd retirement program have increased and cow number are down 11,000 head. however production per cow is now at a record level of 58.2 pounds per day.

Looking at individual state production California milk production is down 1.9%
production in Idaho was off in may by 1.4% and new york production was down
0.8%. Texas had the highest increase in milk production up 6.3%, Minnesota production was up 2.9% and milk production in Wisconsin was up 1.9%
