Wendy Kuschel, co-anchor of Channel 5 First News (Monday-Friday 5am-7am), came to us from Wausau, WI. She's already familiar with the 4 a.m. shift, as she co-anchored the morning show at WSAW-TV. Her TV debut came not as an anchorwoman, but as a spokesperson for a furniture store in Chippewa Falls. But Wendy quickly exchanged advertising couches, for a notepad.
Before TV, she spent time in radio news, reporting for AM Newstalk 790 in Eau Claire. Journalism has been in Wendy's blood since she was a child, as her grandpa Stan, spent 50+ years on-air for WEKZ radio in Monroe, WI. As for internship, her most memorable experience was with Newstalk 1130 WISN when she flew to NYC for the 1st anniversary of 9/11. There, she gathered heart-wrenching interviews with widows, firefighters and the former President of CBS.
Wendy grew up in Menomonee Falls (suburb of Milwaukee) and graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in vocal performance. She was trained classically, but also sang in both disco and blues bands. Her goal now is to sing the national anthem for a Packers game! On May 30, 2009 she married her husband, Kurt, whom she met in Green Bay.
If she's not rising early to help get your day started right in Northeastern Wisconsin, she is walking their 2 dogs, Frisco & Babylon, decorating their new home, or doing pilates and yoga. Wendy is thrilled to bring you your news each weekday alongside meteorologist Justin Steinbrinck.
