HEALTHWATCH:

A type of glaucoma called narrow angle glaucoma isn't easily detected. But, researchers have developed a non-invasive tool to spot this potentially blinding condition, years before an attack. Narrow angle glaucoma happens when the eye fluid pipeline narrows or closes, then pressure spikes. Doctors say that high a pressure usually will send a patient to the emergency room with severe headache, nausea, vomiting. Early diagnosis is hampered by exams that artificially open the drains when the eye's exposed to light or surface pressure. But, a new device that uses infrared light like an ultrasound can change that. Medical experts say it’s done by using light waves to be bounced off the surface of the eye, and therefore allowing us to see structures in the eye. The painless test takes just a few seconds, and can reveal narrowing years before a sudden attack.
