KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A U.S.-funded study will look at the relationship between constitutional rules about gender and the standing of women in their nations' economies and politics.

The National Science Foundation has given a three-year, $312,000 grant to political scientists Priscilla Lambert of Western Michigan University and Druscilla Scribner of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Western Michigan says they and their associates will make a cross-national analysis of 100 countries. They'll also make more-detailed country case studies on provisions, laws and enforcement.

The school says the researchers will look in depth at 15 countries in five regions and take a close look at six countries in southern Africa and South America.
