The Luxemburg-Casco softball team entered tournament play riding a three game losing streak, posting a record of 11-12.
Three incredible weeks later, the Spartans can call themselves State Champions.
Steffi Kinnard was 2-4 with a pair of RBI, and Sophmore pitcher Danielle Deterville was stellar one more time, as Luxemburg-Casco defeated Monroe 4-1 in Saturday afternoon's WIAA Division 2 State Championship game at Goodman Softball Diamond in Madison.
The Spartans got on the board in the fourth, when Lacey Agamaite scored on a Cheesemaker wild pitch. Kinnard's RBI single then brought home Nicole Bruening, making it 2-0 L-C.
In the sixth, it was Kinnard once again coming through with an RBI single, scoring Bruening to push the lead to 3-0. Kinnard eventually would score following a pair of Monroe errors.
Deterville contiued her strong postseason on the mound, holding the Cheesemakers to just one hit until the seventh.
Monroe scored a run on three hits in the final inning, and had runners on second and third with no one out and the tying run at the plate. Deterville then struck out a pair of Cheesemakers before getting Gwen Sutter to ground out to end the game.
The championship is Luxemburg-Casco's first ever in softball.
