Marinette (WFRV) – The interstate bridge over the Menominee River was blocked after a tanker carrying industrial sludge overturned. It is now open.

The tanker truck was carrying about 6,000 gallons of industrial sludge and overturned in front of the Marinette County Court House and city hall. The buildings sit on Hall Avenue.

People in nearby buildings were being asked to stay inside.

The sludge is a thick oil like substance. The truck was coming from the Marinette waste water treatment plant when it happened.

About 4,000 gallons of the sludge spilled onto the street.

The DNR has responded. Some of the substance went down the storm drain, but much of it has not.

The driver of the truck only has mild injuries.
