Michigan Technological University Portage Lake Golf Course (PLGC) will be the 2009 host of the 83rd Ladies UP Tournament July 19 - 22. Unique to the Copper Country, Portage Lake will host the tournament for the first time this year.

Located in Houghton, PLGC is the only 18-hole course in the Copper Country. The course will make some modifications to the course in order to fulfill the yardage requirements. Some holes will be pushed back from the original forward tees to accommodate yardage requirements.

The first day of the event will be an 18-hole qualifying round. The other rounds will be played in a flighted match play. The UP LGA tournament is also unique as it is themed and planned for fun. This year's theme is Halloween in July. Expect club workers to be costumed and holes decorated. One night will consist of a golf demonstration and skits. So it is not all about golf. It's about old and new friendships, fun, and laughter.

Currently, volunteers have been busy collecting decorations, acquiring raffle prizes, door prizes and flight prizes. The organization is also accepting cash donations to help pay for the rented tent needed for the dinners.

Previous winners can be located at the UP LGA website, www.uplga.org.
