| Advantages of mediation
Mediation is the act of a neutral third person intermediating between parties seeking to settle a dispute. Mediation is generally less formal and intimidating than a courtroom hearing and, unless agreed to by the parties, is not binding.

| Costs of mediation
For the majority of divorcing couples, the cost of mediation depends upon several factors. Sometimes, an introductory fee or setup fee is charged. It's not unusual for divorce mediators to charge $200 (two-hundred) to $300 (three-hundred dollars) to prepare what's called a 'memorandum of understanding' that explains to you and your spouse the issues to be resolved by the mediator.

| Process of mediation
Once parties agree to mediation, they must then agree upon a qualifying mediator. If this cannot be agreed upon, the parties can ask the court to assign a mediator to their case.

| What is divorce mediation?
Mediation is a way of solving a dispute whereby the disputing parties bring in a neutral third person to help them to agree on a settlement. In divorce cases, it provides a way for the parties to work out differences and come to a compromise and agreement with regard to property, support, custody, and/or visitation.
