| Suspension/expulsion of a child with a disability
A school district may suspend a child with a disability who receives special education services under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act for up to ten consecutive days.

For a child with a disability, as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, related services are those that are required to help that child benefit from special education.

Under the Individuals with Disabilities Act, the Individualized Education Program, or I-E-P, must address needed transition services for each child with a disability beginning at age 14.

Special education is specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability in the least restrictive environment.

| Who is eligible for special education and related services?
A child between the ages of six and twenty-one may qualify for special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, if the child has mental retardation; hearing impairment, including deafness; speech or language impairment; visual impairment, including blindness; serious emotional disturbance; orthopedic impairment; autism; traumatic brain injury; other health impairments; or specific learning disabilities.
