Town of Scott (WFRV)– An 18-year-old accused of shooting and killing Jeremy C. Moorehead Sunday was charged with first degree intentional homicide in court Tuesday.
Brown County Chief Deputy John Gossage says Maxwell Majeski got a call from the 29-year-old shooting victim before he arrived at his house. “He knew that they were coming over” Gossage said. “He told them not to come over. That there was going to be some trouble.”
Investigators say around 10:40 at night, Moorehead went to Majeski’s home on Conard. He was accompanied by three other guys. Gossage said Majeski had fought with the victim on Friday and the group was going to the suspect’s home because of the earlier scuffle.
When the group arrived Sunday, they verbally fought with Majeski, but the altercation never got physical. Majeski’s dad, who was home at the time, tried to stop the fight before things got worse. Majeski allegedly shot the man twice in the chest with a shotgun.
Debra Vandenlangenberg lives on the street where it happened and heard the shots, but thought nothing of it. People hunt in the area. “Even people coon hunt at night,” Vandenlangenberg said. Her daughter rides the bus with Majeski’s sister. She told Channel 5’s Hilary Golston that she was shocked by the news. “Our two girls go to school with two of his younger siblings” Vandenlangenberg said. “It’s sad. It’s very sad.”
Many neighbors said the Majeski family never made any trouble. Angie Hageness lives a few doors away from where the shooting happened. “There was nothing ever going on. So it’s a big shocker.” A Wisconsin Court System search showed Majeski has not been in significant trouble with the law. He was cited for underage drinking in 2008.
Bond is set at $250,000. Majeski’s initial appearance has been adjourned until November 18th.
