Green Bay (WFRV) – Channel 5’s Terry Kovarik has learned 3 men rescued a 66-year-old Green Bay man from a burning car Tuesday morning. You can see the car after the accident released by the Ashwaubenon Fire Department to the right of the screen.

Doug Demeny of Green Bay, Steve Lahue also of Green Bay and Keith Monroe of De Pere were driving in the area, saw the car on fire and helped pull the man to safety.

Thomas Smeester lost control of his car on Ashland Ave and Highway 41 around 6am. Smeester’s car spun into the ditch as he was entering an on-ramp to Highway 41 southbound. Once in the ditch, the car caught on fire.

In a fire department press release officials say the man was “apparently suffering from a medical condition” when they pulled the man from the vehicle.

Smeester was hospitalized.
