Cycle driver injured in high speed chase

NEW LONDON (WFRV) -- New London police are reporting one injury after a motorcycle chase that reached speeds in excess of 80mph last night.

A press release from the department indicates an office was on routine patrol near Shawano Ave. and Broad Street at 11:33pm Sunday, when he noticed a motorcycle appraching at a high rate of speed. The office confirmed the motorcycle was travelling 60mph in a 35mph zone, and began pursuit.

The motorcycle then sped up to speeds in excess of 80mph as it continued southbound through a residential are of New London.

The officer lost sight of the motorcycle, and a subsequent search revealed the cycle had crashed in the area of Beckert Road and Pershing Street.

The motorcycle driver was airlifted to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. The identity of the driver is not being released at this time.

The department is recommending several charges against the driver, including Knowingly Fleeing an Officer, 7 Stop Sign violations, and a charge of Reckless Driving.
