Dr. George V. Hering, a physician in Denmark for more than 50 years and former chief-of-staff at Green Bay's Bellin and St. Vincent hospitals, died Monday. He was 89.
Dr. Hering served as a Navy medic in the South Pacific during World War II. His uncle, Dr. Wallace Vosburgh, had practiced in Denmark for more than 50 years, and Hering took over his uncle's clinic in 1946.
Hering, known by many in the Denmark area simply as "Doc," retired in 1998
Hering is survived by his companion, Sandra Johnson, three sons, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial picnic will be held from 1-4pm on Saturday at Hering's horse farm, located along County Road R near Denmark. All who would like to share memories of Doc, celebrate his devotion to the community, and his love for horses are welcome to attend.
