GREEN BAY (WFRV)  Getting up-to-date information about crimes in Green Bay is now just a click away.

A new website called myneighborhoodupdate.net tracks police calls using a map of the city.  It shows not only the crime committed, but the date, time and place it happened.

Police hope residents use the site to their advantage.

“If there were a number of thefts in my neighborhood, I would want to know so I could take steps to protect myself and my property,” said Lt. Bill Bongle, who helped create the site.

The site is updated daily.  Users can narrow down their search by entering an address, time period, or crime committed.

“It kind of gives you an idea of where some of the hot spots are,” said Ned Dorff, president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association.

Dorff uses myneighborhoodupdate.net to track incidents in his neighborhood.  He’s seen everything from traffic offenses to public disturbances.

“It’s really nice to see the lack of violent incidents in the area,” said Dorff.

The website has also helped police by identifying clusters of crime throughout the city.  Police have tracked patterns in graffiti, burglaries, car thefts and car accidents.
