Fond du Lac (WFRV)- An Ashwaubenon man gets life in prison for murdering a young woman 33 years ago.

Thomas Niesen was sentenced in Fond du Lac for Kathleen Leichtman's murder Friday afternoon.

Scary and violent are the two words the judge used to describe Thomas Niesen when sentencing him, and Niesen said nothing in his own defense.

You may recall that a tip and DNA led Fond du Lac police to Niesen last fall.

Kathleen Leichtman was from Milwaukee, but was in Fond du Lac working as a Go-Go dancer at The Other Place when she was murdered in July, 1976.

Her friends and family were in court and her niece told the judge the toll the murder has taken on her family.

Niesen received a mandatory life sentence, but the law was written differently in 1976, so he will be eligible for parole in 11 years.
