Town of Abrams (WFRV)- The Oconto County Sheriff has given the district attorney a report recommending that charges be filed in a case involving the disposal of two horses in the Machickanee Forest.

The Sheriff tells Channel 5 that the department believes dumping the horses in the forest was not a legal way to dispose of the animals. The Sheriff says the department’s investigation revealed that the two were dumped there after they had been dead for at least a month. He says authorities have no reason to believe the horses were mistreated.

A man walking his dog in the Machickanee Forest spotted the horses about 100 yards off North Stiles Road in the Town of Abrams early last week. The male and female horses were likely under two years of age.

The Oconto County district attorney received the report yesterday. He will review it next week.
