Town of Cooperstown (WFRV)- Channel 5 got access to the 911 call in a Manitowoc County murder case Wednesday. Family members say there has been serious tragedy before.
Hunters found 50-year-old Miki Greaves dead along a wooded trail in the Town of Cooperstown Saturday. Her husband, 40-year-old Ambrose Greaves, is in custody for her murder.
Two brother’s Dan and Jeff Schreiner stumbled across Greave’s body. In a 911 call they tell the dispatcher that they phoned shortly after they made the discovery.
The hunters shined a flashlight on Greaves face, but weren’t sure if she was alive or dead. "I'm not saying she's dead. I didn't touch the body" Dan told the 911 dispatcher. "It's very unusual for me to walk through the woods, it's pitch black and see something like this."
In the call, Dan describes Greaves body as being in the fetal position. "She was in a real weird position- position wise. The legs were almost up to her chest, and her torso was turned around and her head was straight up.”
The hunter also says an umbrella was laying near the body, which he found ‘weird.’ "It makes me think this person walks around and does this" Dan told the dispatcher. "I don't know. Like she was setting up camp for the night."
Channel 5 learned Tuesday that a receipt for weed killer, a knife and duct tape was found near Greave’s body. Duct tape with what appeared to be Greave’s hair was also found near the body.
A man fitting Ambrose’s description purchased those items from an Ashwaubenon Menards, a return document revealed.
The hunting party moved out of the woods for fear that a killer might still be on the loose.
Dan’s wife told Channel 5’s Hilary Golston that there were children in the hunting party that found Miki. They were happy none of them saw the terrifying sight.
Several family members and friends talked with Golston about the kind of woman Greaves was. All declined to speak on camera. Lorraine Machut is a family member by marriage. She says Miki was a devoted and loving mother. Miki had one 8-year-old daughter with Down Syndrome. Machut said the family lost its patriarch in a tragic farming accident almost 49 years ago on Christmas day. Miki’s mother Eleanor had to raise 5 children on her own. Family and friends said Greaves attended Immanuel Lutheran church in Kewaunee with her mother.
Ambrose has not been formally charged yet. He made his first court appearance in Manitowoc County Court Wednesday morning. At the hearing cash bond was set at $250,000. Channel 5 is told, Ambrose is set to be back in court Monday afternoon for his initial appearance. He faces a 1st degree intentional homicide charge. Ambrose is also charged with hiding a corpse.
