MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation says Wisconsin and Minnesota will combine to receive more than $33 million in stimulus funds for transit improvements across the states.
The funds announced Thursday will be used to buy buses, improve bus shelters and purchase security equipment.
Wisconsin will receive $27.4 million. Among the largest grants are nearly $3 million for the city of Green Bay's transit system to buy four buses and other equipment. The city of Sheboygan will get more than $2 million to buy five buses and other support vehicles.
Minnesota will get $6.1 million, with more than half going to the city of Rochester. Officials there are getting $3.5 million to buy a biodiesel bus and research other improvements and construction.
