MILWAUKEE (AP) — Your Thanksgiving dinner could cost more in Wisconsin than in states that don't have a minimum markup law.

Walmart is advertising a homemade Thanksgiving dinner for eight at less than $20. But, in its Wisconsin ad, Walmart said that $20 doesn't go as far because of the state's Unfair Sales law, which bans companies from selling items below cost.

In Wisconsin, the ad offers frozen turkeys for 86 cents a pound. Without the law in Illinois, Walmart's ad has turkeys for 40 cents a pound. Stove Top stuffing is $1.15 a box at Wisconsin Walmarts compared with 78 cents in Illinois. A can of Green Giant canned vegetables is 6 cents more in Wisconsin.

Supporters of the minimum markup law say it protects smaller retailers who can't afford to sell below cost.
