Miami Dolphins running back Patrick Cobbs was
placed on injured reserve Wednesday due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament
in his left knee.
Head coach Tony Sparano said in his weekly press conference on Tuesday that
the three-year veteran will be out for the remainder of the campaign as he was
hurt on a carry in the fourth quarter of Monday night's 31-27 win over the New
York Jets.
An important contributor in the Wildcat formation, he had six carries for 36
yards along with three catches for 23 yards on the season. Also, he led the
Dolphins this season on the return squad, where he returned 16 kickoffs
for 361 yards.
To fill Cobbs' spot on the active roster, Miami signed running back Kory
Sheets off the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad. The 24-year-old Sheets is
a rookie out of Purdue, where he ranks second all-time behind Mike Alstott on
the school's career rushing list with 3,341 yards.
